I’m proud to announce that I recently joined The Arts Council in Huntsville, Alabama. In doing so, I was offered a chance to participate in one of their fundraisers that was taking place. For their “Seafaring” dinner and auction, artists were asked to paint a buoy! Now, as an artist, I’ve painted on all kinds of odd surfaces and all kinds of themes but this one took a few days to come up with something that I thought would be appropriate.
How could I connect calligraphy with the sea, that was my thoguht, the sea…water…fishing…nets…knots…celtic knots! I painted celtic knots around the buoy and put sea creatures in strategic places. Because of the material the buoy is made from, it was a little bit time consuming to get the paint to stay but it really added to the effect. The crab looks like it’s covered in bubbles! Overall, I think the project turned out very well. I was pleased with it. I don’t know who ended up with it but I hope they enjoy it as much as I did painting it.
