Posing with Letters

Born in Alabama, Beth Paul was introduced to calligraphy when she was given a Speedball set at the age of 9. While others studied art, Beth studied letters, even getting out of gym class in school to make posters for the football games. Even though her path has been a diverse one, calligraphy has always been somewhere in the background, from working at a sign shop to volunteering to design the graphics for a semi trailer for the high school band.

While attending workshops and conferences like IAMPETH and Camp Cheerio, Beth has met some wonderful calligraphers from around the world, including Dame Sheila Waters (England’s loss is our gain!), Rosemary Buczek, Pat Blair, Heather Held (Canadian), Mike Kecseg, Dave Wood (Australian), Timothy Botts, Peter Thornton (England transplant to southern TN!), Michael Sull, the list goes on and on. Thanks to the Internet, the world-wide calligraphy community is as close as an email!

Currently, Beth still lives in Alabama with her husband and two teenagers. Her walls are covered in art, her art table is loaded with new projects to try and that Speedball set is still being used now and then. Some passions never burn out.
