When people think of calligraphy, it usually has to do with weddings. Calligraphy can add so much elegance to a wedding. It is one way to give a personal touch to each guest before they ever arrive. Everyone loves to see their name written in calligraphy!
I’ve been doing wedding calligraphy for awhile now and each one is special to me. After all, each one has to be perfect because each one is going to someone different. Aunt Marge will never see the one for the groom’s second cousin, she just cares that her name is spelled correctly. It’s a challenge most people don’t think about but it’s worth it when it’s all done.
And it doesn’t stop with the invitations. There’s also the place cards, seating chart, menu, program, guest favors, engraving on the glasses and becoming increasingly popular, monograms on the runner! All present unique challenges for the calligrapher to execute perfectly…and on time!
Sometimes I wonder why I love calligraphy so much! But I always have…you can be the wedding planner…I’ll be the wedding calligrapher!
This last photo is a marriage certificate of my great-grandparents. I never knew either one but my great aunt would tell me all about her mother and father. One interesting note: My great-grandfather earned a living painting the scrollwork on the sides of carriages at the turn of the 20th century. I like to think I’m following in his footsteps. And yes, I have pinscriped a car before!
