Marking a Milestone

This is a late post for reasons I won’t go into…but I still wanted to share this artistic twist of a tradition.

Because we did not have very many relatives to send graduation announcements, I refused to buy the minimum of 25 invites from the overpriced catalog of graduation paraphenalia when Jace graduated in 2012. I designed one for him and included his senior photos. Being a guy, he was less than totally impressed, I’m sure but it served the purpose and relatives got photos and announcement at the same time.

Fast forward to Makala’s turn and she wanted her graduation announcements handmade as well. Because of time constraints, hers did not get mailed out but handed out which was fine. The purpose wasn’t to invite attendees anyway since we were limited to 9 tickets per graduate (don’t get me started) but to commemorate the occasion and it worked. Not as casual as postcards or other styles that are popular now but not as formal as the plain white folded card with crest of the school on the front and the name card tucked inside (which is what I had). Nice to be able to personalize (like adding the mascot which is all but gone now) such an achievement with a little bit of creativity.

And that is why I LOVE being an artist.

Here are pics of her announcement:
