New Experiences, New Duties

Just because I haven’t posted about my calligraphy doesn’t mean I haven’t been doing any, just that I am not a very timely blogger! So much easier to post a quick note on Facebook.

For instance, I was given the opportunity of demonstrating calligraphy at The Weeden House on July 17, 2014 during their Art Stroll participation in downtown Huntsville, AL.  It was lovely being there with Lynn and meeting guests as they toured the house. I would have loved to do it again in August but scheduling did not permit.  Lynn has graciously asked me to come back in January 2015 when they have a wedding themed exhibit so I am really looking forward to that.

In the meantime, I have taken on the responsibility of newsletter editor. As a member of the Nashville Calligraphers Guild, about the only way I can volunteer is to do something that does not involve my physical presence. I was newsletter editor years ago but gave it up when I felt that I would not have time. I was asked if I would consider doing it again and silly me said yes. It’s not like I have extra time now but I do feel that I can be more connected with the Guild this way so I don’t really mind. It’s only five issues a year and lots of help should I need it. I am finding that it’s coming back to me so no worries.

Another media related experience is my decision to advertise my calligraphy. I was basically talked into it by others who reminded me that I need to let people know I am available for doing calligraphy.Check out my ad in the Valley Planet August 15, 2014 Art Edition. The ad itself is on page 15 along with Lowe Mill infomation so it looks really good.

Yes, I know an ad for calligraphy should have calligraphy within it. However, due to the last minute decision to place an ad at all, I went with readability in hopes that people will be interested enough to come here for more information.
